Fifth-grade elementary school students were taken to the hospital Tuesday after a Pamlico County School Activity bus was involved in an accident.

The accident occurred around 8:40 a.m. on Highway 306 South just north of Arapahoe, according to Pamlico County Schools.

There were 34 students and four adults on the bus. Ten students and one adult were taken to the hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

School officials said the bus was taking the fifth graders from Fred A. Anderson Elementary School to Minnesoot Golf and Country Club to participate in the First Tee program.

The accident was related to an issue with the left rear tires, according to Pamlico County Schools.

The cause of the issue is unknown, school officials said.

The Pamlico County Schools transportation department is investigating to determine the cause of the issue.

All students and the adult have since been released from the hospital.
