Pitt Community College held its first community-wide career fair today.
The event was open to the public.
Forty employers were on site to recruit community members in search of work.
Walmart, Minges Bottling Corp., Bridgestone, Vidant, Waffle House and Greenville Utilities Commission were just a few companies on the list.
“There are people in the community that are highly skilled…they have those great soft skills and technical skills that employers are looking for that may not be at the college,” said Rachel Bridgers, career outreach specialist at PCC. “So, we wanted to invite them on campus to learn about those career opportunities.”
Only 300 people were expected, but over 500 people showed up to the fair.
“We’ve seen a phenomenal response,” said Bridgers.
The career fair was meant for people looking to start a career as well as people looking to move ahead.
“The unemployment rate is really low in Pitt County which is great, but we know there are folks who are maybe looking for an upgrade or to be able to move further in their career. We wanted to show them all the opportunities that are available right here in their own backyard,” said Bridgers.
