Pollocksville mayor blasts ‘scrooge-like’ suspension of town’s PO box services

The mayor of Pollocksville has blasted the postal service’s suspension of PO box services to the town days before Christmas, calling the action “scrooge-like.”

According to Mayor Jay Bender, a mail worker came to Pollocksville, posted a letter on the wall and drove the temporary mail service center away.

Mail will still be delivered by carriers, but the letter said all PO box services will have to come of out Maysville. The suspension of PO box services is effective Friday.

In an email sent to 9 On Your Side, Bender described it as a “horrible ‘scrooge-like’ action to take – three days before Christmas!!!”

The mayor said efforts to contact postal officials have been unsuccessful, with people already gone for the holidays.

Bender said he has reached out to Senators Aaron Burr and Thom Tillis, as well as Congressman Walter B. Jones, in an attempt to remedy the situation.
