Public meeting underway to discuss road improvements in Greenville

A public meeting is underway with the goal to take questions about proposed changes to a Pitt County Road.

It was focused on improvement to Charles Boulevard in Greenville, the stretch between Fire Tower Road and Worthington Road.

Roundabouts are being considered for that area.

The meeting took place at the Pitt County Council on Aging at 4 p.m.

WNCT’s Courtney Allen overheard that some homeowners along Charles Boulevard asking NCDOT questions.

The proposal includes widening that stretch from two lanes to four and adding some roundabouts.

Supporters of the project said the roundabouts would improve traffic flow, increase safety and create greater connectivity.

NCDOT said they wanted to hear from the public, before making any decisions.

“Just maintain good community relations with the public and get their feedback because we want them to be a part of the process instead of us picking an alignment and saying this is what it is,” said Casey Whitley, Division II Project Engineer of NCDOT. We would like their input.”

People can submit their comments via phone, e-mail or mail through April 2.

The construction date is set for Spring 2023.
