A fifth candidate is running for District 3. State Representative Dr. Greg Murphy is the latest contender.
The seat opened after the passing of Congressman Walter B. Jones this month. Murphy said if he is chosen, he will work to push power away from Washington and back to the people.
He said his vote won’t be turned over to person or party.
“I promise that my office will run as treating our constituents as customers as we are to take care of them. Our veterans are critical to Eastern North Carolina, but they are critical to our country and they will be supported,” Murphy said.
Other candidates for the seat include Representatives Phillip Shepard and Michael Speciale, State Republican Party Chairwoman Michelle Nix, and Marine Combat Veteran Phil Law
