An eastern North Carolina Congressman is taking leave for the remainder of the 2018 congressional year.
Walter B. Jones serves North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District and was granted a leave of absence on December 11th.
Nine on Your Side obtained the Congressional Record from that day which shows Jones was granted the leave due to an illness.
Jones’ office would not comment further on what that illness entails.
Jones has served in the seat since 1995 and announced during the 2018 campaign that this term would be his last.
The news comes on the heels of Congress facing a potential government shut down over a budget for 2019.
