A service dog organization based out of Wilmington, North Carolina is helping save lives.
paws4people was established in 1999 by Kyria Henry. She has dabbled in many disciplines in dog training, but her true love and expertise is Assistance Dogs.

paws4people established the “paws4vets” program in 2008. This program specializes in placing assistance dogs with veterans, service members, and the dependents of each.
In this special, 9 On Your Side talked to two veterans, Nathan Pickering and Richard Franklin. These individuals have already completed their training with their assistance dogs, BANKS and CUMBERLAND.
This organization also places customized assistance dogs for children, adolescents, and adults with life-altering physical, psychiatric and behavioral disabilities.
Even though each assistance dog has an average total cost of around $60,000 at the time of placement, they are placed at no cost to the recipient.
