Two airlifted after Craven Co. house fire


NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Two people were medevaced after a house fire in Craven County, according to Craven County Assistant Emergency Services Director Ira Whitford.

Whitford says the first started around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday at 200 Green Springs Road in New Bern. That’s near US Hwy 70.

Authorities say the fire appears to have started in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation. The homeowners, a husband and wife, were inside at the time and were airlifted to the hospital for their injuries. We are working to get an update on their condition. The home sustained heavy damage.

Township #7, New Bern, West New Bern, Township 6 and Tri-Community fire crews all responded and had the fire under control in about a half hour, according to Whitford. Crews stayed on scene until about 8 p.m.
