Union Point Park in New Bern reopens

Local

Union Point Park in New Bern reopened Friday after suffering damage from Florence.

The only other parks that remain closed are Lawson Creek Park and Glenburnie Park

Those two are expected to reopen within the next week.

The city is trying to get Union Point Park prepared for Mumfest next weekend.

They have spent the past few weeks getting it back in shape.

“Here we had a significant amount of tree damage and just the damage from the flooding itself,” New Bern Parks and Recreation Director Foster Hughes said. “The water is pretty high here so it did a lot of damage to the restrooms. It took one of the bathroom doors off the hinges and bent one of the doors and half. There was also the electrical infrastructure.”

Boat launches at all 25 city parks are closed until further notice due to damages

Both of New Bern’s Recreation Centers are also closed indefinitely.
