Vidant police officer injured in accidental shooting

A Vidant Medical Center police officer was hospitalized after an accidental shooting during firearms training at a Pitt Community College off-campus facility.

PCC officials said that Vidant Medical Center police were using the facility for recertification training when one officer’s gun went off as he was removing it from the holster.

School officials said no PCC faculty, staff or students were involved in the training.

Vidant Health confirmed that a Vidant Company Police Officer was involved in the incident which resulted in him being transported to Vidant Medical Center.

WNCT is working to confirm details on the officer’s injury and condition.
