A woman faces charges after fraud investigators accused her of working while receiving workers’ compensation benefits.
Kimberly A. Sutton was charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and two counts of workers’ compensation fraud.
North Carolina Industrial Commission Fraud Investigators said that Sutton is accused of working while receiving workers’ compensation benefits from NC State and failing to disclose that she was working for another employer.
Sutton unlawfully received $64,040.65 in benefits, officials said.
The New Bern Police Department served the warrants to Sutton.
“Unfortunately, without the help of citizens and employers, this type of fraud is hard to uncover, but thanks to everyone involved, we were able to track it down,” said Fraud Investigative Director Bryan A. Strickland.
