Wood Ducks look to continue to help drive the economy in Kinston

Local

The Down East Wood Ducks are on the road this week to kick off their second season.

The management of the team is ready to start this season off on a strong note.

They’re happy to have made a huge impact in the community last year.

They say they’re ready to meet the community’s expectations from winning the Carolina Cup last season with more great baseball.

Management says being able to help drive the economy in Kinston makes the team feel at home.

The Wood Ducks employ over 120 people and have multiple partnerships with local businesses in the city.

Managers believe the Wood Ducks are making Kinston a destination in the East.

“But now it’s a continued stretch of people coming to visit Kinston instead of just being contained to one weekend,” said Dominic Controneo, broadcaster for the Wood Ducks.

“Now you have a continued stretch of people that want a trip to say we’ve always wanted to try Chef and the Farmer and let’s go to a Wood Ducks game.”

The Wood Ducks will take on the Lynchburg Hill Cats, in Lynchburg, later tonight at 6:30.

The Wood Ducks return next Thursday for their home opener against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

As always, stick with WNCT for the latest on the Wood Ducks season.
