NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – A tiger shark was caught off North Topsail Beach Wednesday night. It measured out to 11 feet and seven inches.
Laura Harrell, a bystander, captured video of the shark being tagged on land.
Harrell said David and Kelsey Schmidt started shark fishing as a hobby. When David got more into it, and wanted it to benefit the environment. That’s when they started tagging sharks for research labs in Florida and a couple in North Carolina.
“It was awesome to watch and they guys were very brave and did an awesome job. They are doing a great thing for ocean life,” Harrell said.
