14-year-old missing, one rescued off Myrtle Beach coast

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Rescue crews are searching for a missing swimmer in the water near 73rd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, according to Lt. Joey Crosby. Crosby said two swimmers were in distress while in the ocean.

Lifeguards and a bystander were able to rescue one of the swimmers. The missing swimmer has been identified as a 14-year-old black male, wearing blue swim trunks.

Lt. Crosby says the swimmer who was pulled to safety has been treated and released from a local hospital. Police confirm the two swimmers are brothers visiting Myrtle Beach from Georgia.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to the call around 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

Rescue teams are in the water searching for the swimmer as well as the US Coast Guard.
