2 charged with killing 95-year-old Shelby woman


SHELBY, N.C. (AP) – Police have arrested a man and a woman in the killing of a 95-year-old Shelby woman.

Multiple media outlets reported that police found Mildred Scarboro Blanton dead in her home around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police have not said how the woman died.

Police say tips from the community led to the arrests of 46-year-old Ashley Blanton Sanders on a charge of first-degree murder and 24-year-old Christopher Thomas Sizemore on charges of first-degree murder, motor vehicle theft and first-degree burglary.

Capt. Steve Seate says Sanders and Blanton were related.

It was not clear if the Shelby residents have attorneys.

No other details have been released.
