200-acre fire reported in Croatan National Forest of Carteret County

BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and North Carolina Forest Service are working to contain a 200-acre long fire in Carteret County.

The Millis Swamp Fire was reported this morning in the Croatan National Forest.

It’s burning nine miles Northeast of Cape Carteret/Cedar Point area, between Mills Road, Pringle Road and Highway 24.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Officials estimate they can contain the fire to 1,300 acres by this evening. A helicopter, three tractor plows and three engines are assisting.
