Those who died for freedom are being remembered in Onslow County as part of a nationwide initiative called Wreaths Across America. The movement honors those who served.
Participants delivered more than 3,000 wreaths to Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
“There’s a lot of families that aren’t here and can’t make the opportunity to come down and put wreaths or flowers on tombstones,” said Domingo Torres, who served in the Marine Corps. for 25 years.
The money raised totaled about $57,000. The wreath-laying ceremony takes place Saturday at noon.
