54-year-old man dies after being hit by pickup truck in Vanceboro

A 54-year-old man has died after being hit by a pickup truck in Vanceboro Wednesday afternoon, troopers said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision reported in Vanceboro Wednesday around 6:43 p.m.

Troopers said the collision involved a GMC pickup truck, operated by 40-year-old Brian D. Everett and a pedestrian, 54-year-old Jimmie E. Lancaster.

The incident occurred on River Road west of Streets Ferry Road, south of Vanceboro, troopers said. 

An investigation showed that Lancaster was pushing a bicycle across River Road and was struck by Everett’s truck.

Everett was traveling northwest on River Road.

Lancaster was transported by air to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he died.  

Everett was not injured during the collision.  

Troopers said that no impairment is suspected for Everett.  

The investigation is still ongoing.


A man was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville Wednesday night after being hit by a truck in Vanceboro.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of River Road and Highschool Road, near West Craven high school.

The condition of the man who was hit is not known at this time.
