9-year-old Greenville girl collecting holiday toys for those less fortunate

An Eastern North Carolina non-profit is giving toys to those who may not be able to afford them this holiday season.

This idea was first started by a 9-year-old from Greenville.

One day, Bailey Bliven was cleaning out her closet and told her mom she wanted to give her toys away.

Her mom didn’t think anything of it until bailey came home the next week with garbage bags full of toys from her friends at school.

This is how the ‘Great Toy Takeaway’ began and is now in its 5th year of serving the community.

Last year, the organization gave away more than 5,000 toys, helping over 400 families.

There are no restrictions on who can pick up the toys.

All donations are being accepted until December 13th.

The organization says over 100 volunteers will help organize and give out toys.

You can donate the toys at Ricci Law Firm, Eastern Plumbing, Sound Feet Shoes, and Allstate Insurance:Matt Smith.

The toys are being handed out on December 15th from 10am-2pm at the Greenville National Guard Armory.
