GREENVILLE, N.C (WNCT) – Saturday was National Trail Day, which prompted people around the community to help clean up trash at River Park North.

Many want to get the park looking its best because the 320-acre park has close to three miles of land and requires a lot of maintenance.

Volunteers cleaned the wooden walkways, fixed drainage issues, and turned old trails back into forest land. Charlotte Smith brought her granddaughter along to help with the trail day and feels that giving back is the right thing to do.

“I think that you have to give back because the community offers a lot of services to us. Sunday in the park, different places that you can go in Greenville that are free, and so yes, I wanted to give back,” said Smith.

River Park North is always looking for volunteers. You can visit their website for more information at http://www.greenvillenc.gov/government/recreation-parks/river-park-north.
