An ECU alumna and actress who has starred in multiple films and TV shows, including “CSI: Miami” and “The West Wing,” will deliver ECU’s spring commencement address.
Emily Procter, who earned her bachelor’s degree in communication from ECU in 1991, will deliver the spring commencement address to more than 5,100 ECU graduates on Friday, May 3 starting at 7:00 p.m., at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, located at 100 Ficklen Drive, Greenville.
During the spring commencement ceremony, ECU will award 4,074 undergraduate and 1,081 graduate degrees, including 131 doctoral degrees, 72 medical degrees, and 50 dental degrees.
Procter is a native of Raleigh who worked as the weekend weather anchor at WNCT-TV while she took broadcast classes at ECU.
After graduation, Procter moved to Los Angeles to start her acting career.
She has had multiple roles in film and television, including 10 seasons as Detective Calleigh Duquesne on “CSI: Miami,” and two seasons as Ainsley Hayes on “The West Wing.”
Additionally, Procter started a company called “Pippa+Pail,” which offers healthy, low waste, grab-n-go children’s lunches.
Procter said, even though her home is now 3,000 miles away from Greenville, her heart remains in North Carolina and she is forever a part of Pirate Nation.
ECU Chancellor, Cecil Station, said, “Commencement is always one of my favorite times of the year on campus. I enjoy seeing the excitement on the faces of the graduates and the pride in their families’ eyes as degrees are conferred and tassels turned. We enjoy welcoming graduates back to campus, especially as our featured speaker for commencement. This year, we look forward to hearing about Emily’s journey from Pirate Nation to Hollywood.”
