Arrest made in Neuse Blvd fatal hit-and-run

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – According to New Bern Police, officers arrested 17-year-old Jayson Cole Isaiiah Hargett in connection with the death of Tina Marie Franklin on May 29.

Officers learned that Franklin was walking in the roadway when she was struck by Hargett.

He was released into the custody of his parent and will make his first appearance in Craven County District Court on Friday.Previous Story on 05/31/16:

37-year-old Tina Marie Franklin was identified as the victim who was struck on Neuse Blvd Sunday.

Franklin was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center, where she passed away from her injuries. It was reported that a female had been hit by a white Jeep, where the driver failed to stop at the scene.

She was found laying on the roadway by officers when they arrived on scene.

The investigation of this crash is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 252-633-2020.

According to the New Bern Police Twitter feed, the vehicle and driver of the car were located. Officers will confer with the district attorney’s office on any possible charges.
