AYDEN, N.C. (WNCT) – Rain didn’t stop Ayden’s Kings of Q BBQ Cook-off and Festival.
Amusement rides, games, vendors, arts and crafts, and classic cars lined the streets of downtown while 30 professional cook teams grilled chicken, pork ribs, pork, and beef brisket. Some of the food went to festival attendees who battled the rain, while the cooks battled each other.
Roy Murray says the rain didn’t slow him down.
“I feel for the town of Ayden because it’s raining, but it’s not going to stop us. We’re here, we’re going to cook, we’re going to turn our stuff in and we’re going to have a good time doing it. And we greatly appreciate what they’ve done,” Murray said.
The festival continued Saturday night with live music from the band Train Wreck at 7 p.m and wrapped up at 10 p.m. Saturday. The festival kicked off with live entertainment and rides Friday night.
This is the festival’s first year in Ayden.
