AYDEN, N.C. (WNCT) – The new fire substation had their ribbon cutting today dozens gathered to celebrate the newest addition to the community.

This comes after months of planning and local donations and grants.

Due to weather and contractual difficulties the original spring open date was pushed back.

With a new station comes a new fire engine as well. All of the volunteer firemen who will be working through this station are all in close proximity.

Chief Sam Jones described it as neighbors helping neighbors

With this new station, response time for those on the east side of Ayden will be shorter.

Jones said the most significant impact will come to homeowners and their lowered insurance rates.
