If you want to help save lives with just a few minutes of your time, you can donate blood at an upcoming blood drive in Beaufort.
East Carteret High School on U.S. Route 70 and the American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Friday, March 29, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the school’s health sciences education room.
Katherine Steele, a principal at ECHS, said “Hosting a blood drive coincides with East Carteret’s core values of giving back to the community. This blood drive is our way of giving students, staff, and neighbors an opportunity to help save lives.”
The American Red Cross said it needs donors of all blood types, especially those with blood types O negative, B negative and A negative.
According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients.
Red Cross officials said “The short amount of time it takes to donate can mean a lifetime to a patient with a serious medical condition. We urge eligible donors to join us in the selfless act of giving blood.”
Walk-in donors are welcome at the blood drive, but you can schedule an appointment to donate, by calling East Carteret High School at 252-728-3514.
