GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Legislators look to pass a bill to delay the public from getting police body cam video. The law now states upon request you can obtain video that is not personnel record.
House Bill 972 said you will now need to go through court to get it.
Greenville Police sees the availability of dash and body camera video as a public service. Chief Mark Holtzman said there are times when privacy is necessary, but his main responsibility is to his job and community.
“I think we have a good working relationship with our community here in Greenville and I see this as not contributing to that it’s gonna delay the release of video, which is gonna strain that relationship,” said Chief Holtzman.
The bill passed the Senate Wednesday morning. It will then go to the House.
