Brandon Ingram is focused on college career, for now

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Kinston native Brandon Ingram is having a standout freshman campaign at Duke.

In the last five games, the 6-9 freshman is averaging 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

He’s also recently been named to the mid-season watch list for the Naismith Award, given to the nation’s top player.

Meanwhile, the NBA is taking notice. Brandon’s dad, Donald, told WNCT that he’s constantly fielding interest from those linked to the NBA.

“As far as making that decision, we’re going to wait and hear from Coach K on where he’s going to actually go in the Draft. The media is talking about, and analysts are talking about Number 2. It could move up to be Number 1. And that’s going to be dependent on the Combine, it’s going to be dependent on the lottery. And L.A. Could get that Number 1 pick. And L.A., according to what I’m hearing is, you know, Brandon will be that Number 1 pick. So, it’s dependent on the need of the team. You know, we’re just taking it all in stride right now. He’s handling that end at Duke. I’m handling this end with the NBA.”

Most draft projections have Ingram being selected as a lottery pick in the first round.

The 2016 NBA draft is June 23.
