GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- While you are at home, first responders are at work. Each and every holiday they sacrifice time with their families to make sure you are taken care of.

In Pitt County Lieutenant Christian Capizzi and EMS Specialist Greg Gibson are assigned to squad one. It’s a truck that assists with emergency calls in Greenville.

“When we arrive on scene it’s strictly to assist with patient care, loading the stretchers into the ambulance, as well as going to the hospital with them,” Capizzi said.

Both Capizzi and Gibson say working on Thanksgiving is worth it.

“Anybody that gets into the fire and EMS job does it for a reason most of it’s a passion to help and give back to the community,” Capizzi said.

“I love being able to help people that are in need,” Gibson said. “This is their worst time when they call us to see the relief and the great fullness is just a relief to us.”

Don’t feel too bad, they made sure to fit in a Thanksgiving meal just like everyone else. There was a full meal with all the trimmings. All the responders helped with dinner.

“It is really nice and it’s maybe a little bit more beneficial to us just because we’ve all put our own hands on it,” Capizzi said.

Harris Teeter donated all the materials for the meal.
