BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – Business owners along our coast took home some useful information on keeping their businesses eco-friendly Wednesday.
It’s all thanks to a free workshop offered by the NC Coastal Reserve in Beaufort.
The goal was to inform hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants and many others about how to keep costs down and keep the environment clean.
“For a restaurant to only offer a straw if it’s asked for as opposed to just giving everybody a straw and for local hotels to not wash sheets every night unless requested, so it’s little simple things that really add up and make a difference,” said Whitney Jenkins, the NC Coastal Training Program Coordinator for the organization.
Workshop participants were also able to learn about the certification process of becoming an NC Green Travel business.
It offers incentives to businesses that take steps to conserve energy and water.
“A lot of people thrive on the tourism and tourism dollars that come in and so if we can protect tourism and protect the wild places that people are coming here to visit, I think it’s a win-win for the county,” said Jenkins.
