Training is underway in Kinston for about 300 Marines preparing to deploy.
The pre-deployment training is happening at North Carolina Global TransPark.
It involves marines from Camp Lejeune, New River and Cherry Point.
Participants have been training for days, and on Tuesday a local STEM program witnessed the group in action.
The unit is conducting operations across the state.
“This realistic urban training exercise is an opportunity for our various raid forces to actually go out from here and project combat power and go to a site, and secure a site, and raid a site,” said Cpt. Joshua Smith, communications strategy and operations officer with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit. “So, it is very realistic with destinations they are not familiar with, so the training value is incredible.”
More than 2,500 Marines from across the state are participating in the training, which ends August 6.
