RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) – The Charter Schools Advisory Board discussed the interscholastic policy during a meeting on Tuesday.

According to a spokeswoman, the board unanimously approved a motion to recommend that charter schools not be included in the interscholastic policy.

The currently policy limits student participation to be for those enrolled in grades 7 through 12.

The recommendation, if approved, means that charter schools would have flexibility under the policy.

The recommendation will now be presented to the state Board of Education for members to consider.

The Board of Education discussed at its May meeting adding charter schools to the policy.

The policy was first put in place in 1995.
