Cherry Point squadrons compete in anniversary field meet

Cherry Point (WNCT)– Two different Cherry Point Marine squadrons went head to head on Friday in a heated but friendly competition in 10 different athletic contests.

Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and Marine Wings Squadron 2 competed against each other in true Marine Corps fashion in events like volleyball, pull ups, soccer and a relay race.

The competition comes on the 75th anniversary of both squadrons at Cherry Point. The goal wasn’t to win, but rather to build camaraderie amongst Marines.

“The two units are competing against each other so it really instills some camaraderie within our own unit first,” First Lt. Kevin Reeves said. “It really allows us to back our own individuals and get behind them. And everyone loves getting cheered on in an event.”

Of course, there could only be one winner. Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron won by five to four.
