The Carteret County Department of Social Services (DSS) will host several public events in April for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

On Tuesday, April 9, at 10 A.M., a Child Abuse Prevention Walk will be held to raise awareness of the problem. The walk will begin at DSS and will continue through down the Beaufort waterfront.

On Thursday, April 11, there will be two free, public showings of the film “Resilience,” a documentary that shows how child abuse and neglect, put people at risk for disease, substance abuse, and early death. The film will be shown at First Methodist Church, located at 900 Arendell Street in Morehead City, from 1:00 PM to 3 PM and from 6 PM to 8 PM. A discussion on the effects of child abuse and neglect will follow each showing of the film.
