Deputies: Man arrested after shooting in Jacksonville, 1 injured

A Jacksonville man has been arrested on firearm charges after a shooting was reported Saturday early morning in the Wolf Swamp area of Jacksonville, deputies said.

Wali F. Houston, 26, of Jacksonville, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into a vehicle. 

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said they arrived to Woodleaf Drive after they were notified of shots being fired in the area.

The suspect had shot while he was sitting in a car, deputies said.

Deputies said a person was injured and was sent to the Onslow Memorial Hospital and later to the Vidant.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

Deputies later identified the suspect as Houston.

Deputies said witnesses described Houston’s vehicle as a silver Chevrolet Traverse and told they saw another male inside the car. 

No description was provided for the second male.

Houston was sent to the Onslow County Detention Center and was given a $375,000 bond.
