A Sneads Ferry man was arrested Monday after deputies said he agreed to restore a classic vehicle and then failed to do so after being paid.
Dean T. Hanson, 47, was charged with conversion by bailee.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said that Hanson was hired to restore a 1967 Pontiac GTO in September 2016.
On May 2, deputies received the report.
As of June the victim’s vehicle had not been returned, nor could he locate it where Hanson stated it was, deputies said.
Deputies said that they received several complaints over the past year related to Hanson agreeing to complete vehicle restoration work and then failing to do so after being paid.
Hanson has operated under the business name, “Coastal Customs” located on Hwy 17 in Holly Ridge but has since moved his business to the Swansboro area.
He was sent to the Onslow County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.
