DUDLEY, N.C. (WNCT) – A phone call led to the arrest of a man running away from a Dudley home break-in, the Wayne County Sherriff’s Office said.

Deputies said a woman returning to her home on Williamson Farm Road called 911 after she heard noises inside her home and suspected someone had broken in.

While deputies surrounded the home and sent in a K9 to search it, a person saw someone walking and then running from the area. They called the communications center and deputies arrested the suspect who was running away.

“This is an excellent example of citizens, our telecommunicators and law enforcement working together to see that those who choose to violate the laws are quickly taken into custody and have the ability to recover victim’s property,” said Sheriff Larry Pierce.

Deputies said the suspect was breathing heavily and was covered in briars and other vegetation.

Akeem Alonzo McKinney, 26, of Dudley, was arrested and faces felony charges related to the break-in.

He was being held in the Wayne County Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bail.
