A wanted fugitive and a woman were arrested Tuesday on several charges after a traffic stop in Onslow County.
Abney Cruz Costilla, 29, of Maysville, was charged with
- Felony parole violation
- Misdemeanor larceny
- Misdemeanor assault on a female
- Felony flee or elude law enforcement officer
- Misdemeanor resist, obstruct or delay a law enforcement officer
- Careless and reckless driving
- Endangering others
Aubrey A. Lacapria, 32, of Hubert, was charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony conspiracy and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Monday, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit received information that Cruz, a wanted fugitive, had returned to the area.
Officials located Cruz traveling on Gum Branch Road and conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday.
According to officials, Cruz resisted and after a brief struggle, was taken into custody.
Cruz ingested narcotics during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, officials said.
An investigation showed that Lacapria was operating the vehicle Cruz was in.
Cruz was sent to the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond and Lacapria was given a $2,000 bond.
The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are expected.
