GRAND BAY, AL (WKRG) – The Mobile Police Departments one of its officers is expected to survive after an early morning shooting.

According to our sister station, WKRG, it happened at a Citgo Gas Station on Grand Bay-Wilmer Road. The location of the shooting is about 25 miles southwest of Mobile.

Police say an officer was shot twice and listed in stable condition.

Investigators say the suspect was also shot. No word yet on that person’s condition.

Witnesses tell WKRG it appears an undercover drug operation went wrong when officers turned on their blue lights while the suspect was meeting people behind a restaurant. The witnesses say the suspect tried to get away on a motorcycle.

“And then all of the sudden the SUV turned on blue lights and then two cars came from the back of the parking lot and the cops followed em, backed up went out there and so they chased him to the gas station across the street,” said a witness show didn’t want to be identified, “[The suspect] wrecked his motorcycle and the next thing we know 4 more cops show up, 5 more cops show up, 19 cops, fire department it was crazy!”
