For decades, Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe has been serving up quality, fresh and local seafood to locals and tourists in Nags Head.
Featuring freshly grown veggies and herbs in their gardens, and top quality seafood from local waters, Basnight’s is sure to please.
“I know that they care about local seafood that is caught in these waters,” said Betty Selby, a regular there.
“They don’t serve anything but local seafood,” said Denise Daniels. “And if it’s not in season, they don’t serve it.”
Everybody has their go to’s on the menu, but everyone is agreeing on one thing — the Jumbo Lump She Crab Soup is to die for!
“I think that’s everyone’s favorite,” Daniels said. “Creamy, sweet, a little red pepper in it.”
The mastermind behind the fresh seafood creations is Chef Bud Grunniger.
“I grew up on the coast, grew up fishing, working on fishing boats,” he said.
Spending his whole life around the stuff, he should know fresh seafood. Some of the best sellers features local green tail shrimp, which Grunniger says is top of the line when it comes to shrimp.
“Green tail is a middle water feeder. So it’s not eating the waste on the bottom, it’s eating more fresh plankton and seafood, so it gives it a little better flavor.”
