Duplin Co. holds memorial for veterans killed during Korean War

KENANSVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A week away from Veteran’s Day, Duplin County held a special dedication Friday afternoon for a memorial honoring the 15 Duplin-area veterans killed during the Korean War.

The Granite Memorial is located in front of the Duplin County courthouse.

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Harold Davis gave the address at the event said it will ensure their comrades’ names are never forgotten.

“They fought for us; they gave their lives for us,” said Davis. “What else could they give? The least we can do is pause to remember them.”

After Davis’ address, families of the veterans unveiled the monument together.

The county plans to add two more war memorials in the coming years.
