GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – There’s cause for double the celebration this weekend in Pitt County.

Families will gather in Greenville for ECU’s spring commencement starting Friday, then honor their moms for Mother’s Day on Sunday.

These two special events are creating quite a bit of business for local florists and gift shops.

Michelle Finizio, owner and operator Edible Arrangements in Greenville, said Mother’s Day is the second-busiest holiday of the year, accounting for 15-percent of annual revenue. She said her business typically does 35-to-40 arrangements per day, but expects do 20-times that amount this weekend.

“This is definitely a bump when you’re doing 600 to 800 per day instead of that normal number so it’s a little boost to the profits,” Finizo said.

ECU’s graduation is on Friday, but individual college and degree ceremonies continue through Saturday.

Edible Arrangements will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. for pick-up or delivery.
