GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – East Carolina junior wide receiver Trevon Brown has been officially declared ineligible for competition during the 2016 season according to a ruling by the NCAA late Tuesday.
Head coach Scottie Montgomery confirmed Brown could not play for the Pirates this fall, but would remain on the roster and be permitted to practice as long as he is enrolled at the school on a full-time basis. Brown will have one year of eligibility remaining after sitting out this season.
Brown, who has played in 17 career games with 55 receptions for 760 yards, was East Carolina’s projected starter at the “Z” outside receiving position after preseason camp. Senior Jimmy Williams, who caught two passes for 40 yards and a touchdown in the Pirates’ opener against Western Carolina, is expected to start his second-straight contest at that position against NC State Saturday.
