GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Philip Nelson has shined in his first year at starting quarterback for East Carolina.

For the most part.

The Minnesota native ranks first in the country in completion percentage, completing greater than 78 percent of his passes.

He also ranks fifth in the nation in passing yards, averaging more than 360 passing yards per game.

However, in ECU’s loss last Saturday, Nelson threw two red zone interceptions as part of the Pirates 20-15 loss to South Carolina.

And Nelson will certainly be tested again this Saturday, meeting the nation’s top passing defense in Virginia Tech.

WNCT’s Patrick Quinn has more on Nelson and the Pirates’ game plan in preparation for the Hokies.
