KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Kinston woman is dead after an accident Friday night involving an impaired driver.
Police said they arrived on scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. to discover two vehicles had collided in the intersection, both sustaining heavy damage.
Police said 76-year-old Mary Catherine Paramore of Kinston died at the scene. There was one child passenger with her, who was treated and released from UNC Lenoir and Vidant Medical Center.
The other driver, 27-year-old Cameron Blake Lovitt of Greenville, was not injured.
After an investigation, police charged Lovitt with driving while impaired and aggravated felony death by motor vehicle. Lovitt was booked in the Lenoir County Jail under a $76,000 bond.
According to police, a golden retriever who was in Lovitt’s car at the time was take to the Lenoir County SPCA for safe keeping.
According to troopers with the State Highway Patrol, Lovtt’s car was traveling East on Hwy 70 when he entered the intersection while the traffic light was red. He then struck the vehicle driven by Paramore while it was turning left onto Hwy 70 off of Hwy 258 South.
