GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Facebook launched a “Safety Check” feature after deadly Paris attacks Friday night. The check-in allows for people in areas affected by tragedy to connect with family and friends via the social media site.
Cell phone signal can often be spotty after tragedy and connecting with concerned loved ones is often impossible, so the feature provides another way for families to make sure their relatives are safe.
Facebook friends are then notified if any of their connections have checked-in. The page also provides further information about the developing situation in the region that is being monitored. Facebook users in the area report they were prompted to share their status with followers if they were geo-tagged in the affected region. Click here to see if any of your Facebook friends have checked in.
