Multiple EMS crews and police officers responded to the reported drowning at the Days Inn on Carolina Avenue late Monday afternoon, immediately performing CPR on him and the boy’s father.

The child, identified as 10-year-old Demetrius Emmanuel Palmer Jr., was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after, according to Washington Fire Chief Robbie Rose.

The boy’s father nearly drowned in the incident and was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment, where he later died.
