FDA recalling some thyroid medicine over potential manufacturing issue

The FDA announced Westminster Pharmaceuticals LLC is voluntarily recalling some Levothyroxine and Liothyronine tablets sold to pharmacies.

The recall notice said they were made using ingredients that came from Sichuan Friendly Pharmaceutical Company Limited before a 2017 inspection found problems with the manufacturing process used to make the medicine.

The substandard process could pose a risk to patients.

So far the FDA has not received any reports of problems from patients taking the medicine.

The FDA said patients should continue to take the recalled medicine until they have new medication because it is used to treat major medical issues like hypothyroidism.
