GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- There are tons of diet myths out there. If you want to increase your chance of success, you may want to step on the scale more often.

A new study suggests that consistent self-weighing improves people’s determination to shed pounds. The study was led by a team at Boston College.

Results show that people who weigh themselves more often tend to avoid overeating. A dietitian at Vidant’s Wellness Center says stepping on the scale a few times a week can give you the confidence you need to continue with your diet.

“It raises your awareness to what you’re eating, and that also kind of helps with other healthy lifestyles,” dietitian Colleen Bucher said. “If you’re doing that, then chances are you’re going to the gym more often, you’re exercising more often, you’re drinking more water.”

Bucher says everyone is different, and some people may see results without stepping on the scale multiple times a week.
