Future of Pungo Hospital to be considered Dec. 21

News

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) – The future of Pungo Hospital could come down to one judge’s decision on December 21.

The judge will hear the restraining order complaint at business court in Raleigh and will decide whether to uphold or get rid of it. If the judge gets rid of the restraining order, Pantego Creek LLC could demolish the hospital building.

Belhaven Mayor Adam O’Neal was in Raleigh Tuesday hoping to get support of lawmakers and said the town is not giving up hope of reopening the hospital

“I think it’s really sad, the lengths we have to go to as a community to fight for our own hospital,” O’Neal said, “a hospital that was paid for and built by community funds, by local and federal tax dollars, by local donations.”
