SNOW HILL, N.C. (WNCT)- A Greene County deputy was shot by friendly fire after a vehicle chase Tuesday night.
According to Sheriff Lemmie Smith, deputies became involved in a chase involving a reckless driver which started in Stantonsburg around 8:30 p.m.
Smith says a deputy got in front of the suspect, ending the chase and causing the suspect to crash into the rear of the patrol vehicle.
The suspect, Devin Bigler, was shot by deputies after showing a firearm.
Deputy Phillip Heck was grazed in the arm by friendly fire, Smith said.
Both Deputy Heck and Bigler were taken to Vidant Medical Center.
Heck has since been released and Bigler was listed in stable condition.
Bigler was reported missing last week, then later changed to wanted after charges for Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, Financial Card Theft and Obtaining Property by False Pretenses warrants were issued for him.
The SBI is investigating the shooting.
